Turn the Other Cheek

When someone insults you, it’s best to “turn the other cheek.” This picture, taken from thatgirlisfunny, shows a good way to handle insults. Instead of getting revenge or making fun of the other girls as well, she simply turns around as to not to give them the satisfaction of making her cry. She is different from them and knows that she can stand up for herself by doing nothing but looking away.
This statement goes along with Raisin in the Sun when George Murchinson insults Beneatha. He insults her and the way she thinks several times throughout the entire play. He says she needs to learn her place, act right, look right, and basically stop dreaming about becoming something better. Beneatha, instead of smarting off back at him, simply does not argue. This is not normal for her as we see when she talks to Walter. She sticks to the things she believes in because that is who she truely is. But by the end of the play, Beneatha just tells Mama she is done with associating with George because he is not what she is looking for in life.

Swallow Your Pride

Sometimes swallowing your pride is necessary for survival. This picture is a very good representation of this statement. Taken from wordpress, the picture simply shows a man swallowing the word PRIDE. It is showing that doing something like this is sometimes what it takes. Sometimes to survive, you must do what you think is impossible, unbearable, and possibly give up something you have worked very hard for.

In the play, Walter is going to swallow his pride and take Mr. Lindners offer. He realizes that in order for his family to get their money back he must do this. Although he made a mistake, he is willing to give up everything he has put into his gamble on the liquor store, and do what is best for his family. In the end of the play the family pulls together and takes a stand against Lindner, but I think they all looked at things could have been and were almost ready to swallow their pride in order to survive in that world.

Big Risks

To be successful, you must take big risks. This image, taken from New Life Baptist Church, represents someone taking abig risk. By climbing the mountain, the climber is risking something big, his life. When he reaches the top of the mountain though, he will feel very successful. Doing daring things are good example of taking a big risk to be successful.

This statement relates to Raisin in the Sun when Mama buys the Clybourne house. She takes a rather large risk by purchasing a house in a white community. Black people were looked down upon during that era and it was not seen as a good idea by some to surround her family by rich, white families. In her heart though, Mama knew that her family would work to be successful. They were all willing to hold onto their pride, work together, and try to be successful in their new siciety.

A Bright, Bright, Sunshiny Day:)

The past few days have been perfect weather. It has been in the upper sixties which is fabulous for February. The sun was out one day and I took a trip to the golf course to walk. Its a total of four miles so I felt pretty accomplished. Minus the slight windiness, it really has been amazing!

Baby it's cold outside!

Snow, snow, snow! Who likes snow?? I, honestly, am not a big fan. But I will not complain. Even though it seems to me that it takes up our snow days at least we are all safe at home. Snow give us time to spend with our families, get some of those never ending chores done, or maybe just take some time to work on a hobby. I know my days off from school were fun-filled, yet relaxing. I heard we were supposed to get some more snow in a couple of days...so goodbye school. Again.
